Mangrove Planting

Early this morning, Fr. Brian and some staff participated in the Mangrove Planting Activity of our Partners JCI Metro Cebu Uptown, Cebu and Zugbuana held at San Roque Springs, San Roque Asturias Cebu. The group planted the locally called “Bakauan Lalaki” whose scientific name is “Rhizophora Apiculata Blume” of the “Rhizophoraceae” family of mangroves.

The Mangroves seems to be the only species of trees in the world that can tolerate salt water. They are also the habitat of thousands of fish species from 1 inch gobies to 10 foot sharks. They also serve as a natural buffer against STORM SURGE.
